My oh my, oh my, the weekend is near, and I probably couldn’t be more excited. I think it’s safe to say that the year has taken a slightly different path than we maybe anticipated, but today, the Weekend Guide is back on the blog! This weekend is simply packed with some just awesome (socially distanced) events that get me oh so stoked. Furthermore, the Summer is almost officially here, the weather prospects are looking great and so do the following weekend options. In short: there’s loads to celebrate so let’s get to it!

Sushi & Ramen Beach Brunch – Dok Amsterdam, 20th and 21st of June
I’ve told you a couple of times before about Dok Amsterdam, a lovely “city beach” that organizes such fun, and often delicious, events. This weekend is no exception, with the Sushi & Ramen Beach Brunch. So, get ready to indulge in some sophisticated and creative dishes, sweet cocktails, Sake or Asahi beer and enjoy the “beach” and swinging music. As there are limited spots, be sure to claim your spot beforehand.

Vintage Bike Sale – NDSM Werf, 21st of June
The Dutch and bikes are naturally an everlasting love story. Lately, I’ve seen a lot of beautiful vintage (racing)bikes riding around and quite frankly, stealing the show. If you’ve experienced similar feelings, or you’re just looking to get your hands on a new (vintage racing) bike, this event might be worth a visit. More than a 100 different bikes will be available and naturally, you can take one of them for a little testride around the great NDSM Werf.

World Press Photo Exhibition – Nieuwe Kerk (1st of June till the 29th of June)
Another all-time favourite of mine is the World Press Photo Exhibition in the Nieuwe Kerk on Dam Square. This annual contest that results into this great exhibition is a very well-known and respected press-photography event. The pictures, including the great winner of the year, are known to have a great impact on people. Additionally, 150 stories behind the photographs, ranging from sports related to politics, portraits, nature and environment related photographs, will be told via an audio tour. Again, if you’re even a little into photography, this event is definitely a must visit. If you’re interested, tickets can only be purchased online via this website.

Craft Beer and Stand Up Comedy XXI – Brewery De Prael Houthavens, 20th of June
Beers and laughter. Something a lot of us crave for during the weekends. This (English spoken) event will probably give you just that. Enjoy all sorts of craft beer while various stand-up comedians will give it their all. The event is hosted and will take place at social brewery de Prael in the Houthavens, so treat yourself to a great night out, while you are simultaneously contributing to a great cause, namely helping people back into employment and giving people who were struggling a structure. If that isn’t worth another round, I have no clue what is. Get your tickets for this great event here.

Day of Architecture – 20th and 21st of June, various locations throughout Amsterdam
Amsterdam is loved for many things, but one of the most obvious reasons has to do with its unique and eternally gorgeous architecture. From the classic canal houses to more contemporary buildings around. During the day of architecture, the focus will be on public areas and ornaments as this year’s theme is “Architecture, a public case”. It makes for a great occasion to learn more about the many great buildings around and talk to archictures about their craft. Museum Het Schip, ARCAM Architecture center Amsterdam and Van Eesteren Museum are collaborating together to make this an educational and fun day out! From tours to readings and from bicycle rides through the city to live podcasts, learn more about the program here.

Museum Market – 21st of June, Museumsquare
And naturally, what’s a weekend guide without mentioning one of the many great markets in Amsterdam. This weekend, the very popular Museum Market is taking place again! Get your hands on some very exclusive, creative and suprising items or enjoy a little local bite and beverage at one of the foodstands on Museumsquare. Time to do some treasure hunting!
And that’s it for this week folks. I wish you nothing short of a wonderful weekend ahead! Cheers!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
