For the ones who have been paying very, very close attention, I’ve mentioned this gem already once or twice before, but quite frankly, it deserves a lot more attention than a quick mention. So, here we are. Let me tell you a little more about this great shop, called Sukha, in my beloved Jordaan.
Sukha a lovely warehehouse packed with an original and broad range of items, located on the Haarlemmerdijk. The founders of Sukha refer to this place as a living room where people meet and that is filled with beautiful, sustainable, fair and original pieces, items and clothes. The atmosphere is very laid back, easy going and warm. At Sukha, they are not greatest fan of fast fashion but rather prefer slow, timeless fashion and designs that fit every season. The products are timeless due to their appearance, quality and touching stories behind the brands and items.

And what it truly makes it a gem, is the great story of the brand. Sukha means “joy of life” in Sanskrit, a language that is also referred to as the old Indian language. This naturally is no coincidence, just like any other aspect of this place really. One of the founders of Sukha has lived in India for a couple of years when working on their label called Atelier Sukha. She travelled to the poverty-stricken regions and there connected to the community and their craftsmen. Together, they created the label called Sukha. This way, they ensure a solid income and future for families in India and Nepal. “The Joy Of Life” is not only the translation of the name, it is truly what they stand for in everything. And ain’t that the “bigger goal”, lovely folks.

As Sukha, one can find some great gems ranging from beautiful thick scarfs to handmade jewelry, home décor items, plants, kitchenware and my personal favourite: beautiful prints. The Sukha family does not only exists out of the exceptionally helpful shop personnel but also an illustrator and a poet who create some just beautiful prints and postcards.

The beautiful and sustainable items, its great stories and the just lovely atmostphere: this place does not only contribute across the border, but also right here in the Jordaan, as to me, it definitely manages to spark joy.
Happy (conscious) shopping!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
