Ahh folks, now that festivities have officially ended, it is still a very wonderful time, as after all it is time for the first Weekend Guide of the year! To say that I am curious about which great activities this next year will bring my city, would be an understatement. But let me give you a little spoiler already: I have good hopes that this weekend will set the right tone for the rest of 2020.
Hearth – De Appel Amsterdam, 10th of January
All movie fanatics unite. Today at De Appel Bar is all about movies – from researchers to makers and other artists will gather here and talk all about their greatest passion. The night is hosted by a group of international artists. Together they are aiming to explore and redefine the boundaries of movies and art. You can count of an evening full of creativity, great conversations and a lot of movie talk.

SKALAR – Gasthouder, 10th of January till the 5th of February
Ah, I am truly stoked for this one! SKALAR is a crazy audio-visual kinetic art installation. This artwork was born as the result of a collaboration between musician Kangding Ray and light artist Chirstopher Bauder. After some international expositions, they now have landed in my beloved city. To be a bit more specific, they are now in Gashouder, a beautiful location in Westerpark. Expect mirrors, an out of this world lightshow and supporting sounds that take this experience to another level.

Homeware Market – De Hallen, 12th of January
It is as obvious as it gets: the fact that I simply love spending some time strolling on markets, hunting for a few treasures. I’ve told you many times before about the Maker Market at De Hallen, but this great place is now spoiling us by introducing a new market called the Homeware Market. It is basically the same idea as the Marker Market, but then only with homeware products, where the makers of the products offer some great, original products, which they produced. From now on every second Sunday of the month at the great Hallen.

High (On) Wine – Rayleigh & Ramsey, 11th and 12th of January
This one is not so much recommended for the ones who are participating in “Dry January”, but well… I do adore a little High Wine. This weekend at Rayleigh & Ramsey, alongside a selection of some delicious bites, instead of opting for the classic high-tea concept, try multiple kinds of great grapejuices! 😉

New Year’s Drinks – Brewery Poesiat & Kater, 12th of January
Yes – it has been 10 days, and this Sunday it will be 12. But what’s 12 days on 366 days?! Well, this Sunday at brewery Poesiat & Kater, they will host a toast to the New Year. A great chance to sip some new kinds of beers and enjoy some bites. Cheers!

Enjoy your weekend, lovely people!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
