It’s the final countdown! As the year (and decennia!) is coming to an end, you will find me indulging a lot of “poedersuiker” with some “oliebollen” and reminiscing about all the great adventures that have happened and all the wonderful people that I’ve met throughout the last (ten) years. 😉 But before we say goodbye to 2019, we still have a few days left to end this year properly. During this upcoming weekend, there are many, many ways to end this year great, by adding a few extra lovely memories. I’d love to tell you a little about it!
The Wonderful Sounds – Yearmix Edition Party – KIT Tropical Institute, 26th of December
Where a picture brings back a thousand memories, so does music. The last “vrijmibo” or rather festive suggestion is the “Wonderful Sounds – Yearmix Edition Party” by Flexican. As he is releasing his 13th yearmix, he will take you back all the way to the good ol’ days of 2007 up until the best s(w)ing-alongs of 2019. Time to put on your dancing shoes and boogie the night away one last time this year, at one of the most beautiful locations of my city: KIT Tropical Institute.

Het Amsterdamse Winterparadijs – RAI Amsterdam, till the 5th of January 2020
This must be the biggest Winter event in town. At RAI Amsterdam, they are hosting the ultimate winter experience, from ice skating to a giant ferris wheel, curling and langlaufen, from early birds to night owls, indoor and outdoor, the real snow and apres ski and food stands will be waiting for you. Oh, happy holly jolly winter days!

New Market – Nieuwmarkt, 27th of December
And what’s a Weekend Guide without a nice little market? I’d say: not complete. This weekend is another edition of the New Market, a market hosted in the heart of my dear Amsterdam, namely on the “Nieuwmarkt”. You can expect all kinds of funky shopping stands, festive bites and some drinks to go along with it.

Kintsugi workshop – Rumah Yoga , 28th of December
For many, these last few days of the year also make for a great opportunity to stop, pause and reflect. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold alloy. This teaches us that broken objects (or “scars” for that matter) are not something to hide but rather something to display with pride. Next to the actual Kintsugi part during this workshop, the aim of this workshop is also to learn some ways to meditate and live a little lighter. A nice, mindful way to end this year, right?

Social Fine Dining Experience by Hyssop – Atelier Verdenius, 29th of December
And if you are already missing the festive dinner’s already, no stress! Hyssop is hosting an exclusive Social Fine Dining Experience at the beautiful Atelier Verdenius. Their luxury 5 course meal will bring colour, creativity and fine flavours to the table. At this former sailors’ residence (truly the definition of a hidden gem), this night promises to become true culinary experience, including surprises!

Hanneke’s Live – Hanneke’s Boom, 29th of December
Drinks, bites, live music and a great setting on a dark Sunday evening: to me, this sounds like the perfect way to end the last weekend of 2019. At one of my favourite hangouts, Hanneke’s Boom, they will host Hanneke’s Live with this Sunday, Marcel Barlag and his groovy tunes.

And before we end the last Weekend Guide of the year, I’d like to wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year, filled with new adventures for you and your nearest and dearest. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy good people! Sending a lot of love from the Jordaan and cheers to a spectacular New Year and decennia!
See you all in 2020!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
