Some time ago, I told you about one of Amsterdam’s greatest cocktail places called Tales and Spirits. Up until recently, whenever I was in for a cocktail or two, you could find me either there or at Brandstof. But there’s a new gem in town, or rather in the street, that earned its place on my favourite cocktail spots list: The Jitterbug Saloon.

The Jitterbug Saloon opened its doors earlier this year on my very beloved Bloemgracht. And actually, it’s the latest little sister of Tales and Spirits. The resemblance is clear when entering this spot, as similar to Tales and Spirits, The Jitterbug Saloon reminds you of a “brown café” including a long, classic wooden bar. However, if that is not really your cup of tea, if you’ll walk past the wooden bar, the room in the back kind of feels like a little covered inner garden where weekly live old school jams like jazz and blues performances are given. The overall atmosphere is very low key, easy going and vaguely reminds you of one of those great old speak easies. Truly what feels like a local spot that’s been around for ages! Which is quite the accomplishment if you’d ask me.

Now let’s get to the real deal: their mouth-watering drinks. The menu is rather straight forward and can be divided into three different sections: The Jitterbugs (signature cocktails), Wannabees (the classics) and Saloon Styles (rather boozy cocktails). I couldn’t decide upon a favourite as it is very dependent on your mood. However, trust me when I say, there’s something there for any cocktail enthusiast!

The service is just great, the cocktails are as good as I’d hoped, and the atmosphere is something that makes me want to return many more times. ‘Cause just as the ingredients of the cocktails, this equitation adds up to something that simply works, called The Jitterbug Saloon.
Cheers folks!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
