It’s mid-september and I am preparing myself to officially say goodbye to one season and welcome another. Let’s say every season has its beauty right? This weekend, some lovely events in Amsterdam will be hosted in order to celebrate the last days of sweet summer. A weekend filled with great outdoor events sounds like music to my ears. Let me tell you all about it!
Seafood Festival Amsterdam – 13th till 15th of September
Bikes, tylips, licorice, dikes and the fish behind the dikes: all things that are often reffered to when talking about my beautiful country. This weekend is the very first edition of the Seafood Festival Amsterdam! Which means three days filled with (you guessed it) seafood, the biggest Fruits De Mer, fishy BBQ’s, hottubs filled with cava, gamba hotdags and an oyster eating contest. I’m rather curious to see what will go down. Care to join me?
Amsterdam Beach Festival – Dok Amsterdam, 14th of September
Even though summer is officially coming to an end, I’m hoping and dreaming of a long indian summer. But for right now, at Dok Amsterdam, you can celebrate the last offical days of summer with some great cocktails, a silent disco, hammocks, karaoke and of course on a beautiful beachy location. Sounds like a great way to say goodbye to what has been a lovely season!
Pop-up Tropenmuseum: My Ritual – till 28th of September
Rituals. Every country, community and culture has them. Amsterdam is packed with it too. Rituals are what brings colour to our lives. They are part of big moments such as a celebration, a goodbye, birth, love. They remind us of important memories too. I myself have quite some as well. The pop-up Tropenmuseum’s exhibition “my ritual” gives people the opportunity to learn about the rituals of Amsterdam’s inhabitants. Join a workshop, a reading or a tour by sharing something of your rituals and find out a little more about each other.
Open Air Cinema – Ketelhuis, 13th of September
And as almost every other edition of the Weekend Guide this summer, I had to tell you about another greats open air cinema. I mean, it may be the last evenings of the year that allows such lovely outside events. So, when the sun goes down, Ketelhuis will play Visages, villages (JR & Agnès Varda 2017, Frankrijk, 94’): a roadmovie/documentary. We should enjoy it while we can, right?
Open Monumenten Dag – 14th and 15th of September
I am beyond lucky to live in a city with such rich history and beautiful and unique architecture. Amsterdam is truly packed with architectural and historical gems. This weekend is Open Monuments Day, which means the doors of some (normally closed) monuments will open to the public. May I suggest checking out International Theatre Amsterdam, De Hollandsche Manage and the Gardenmansion of the Vicq. They’re just a few of my personal favourites!
Wishing you the most wonderful weekend!
