In the heart of the Jordaan is where I like to spend most of my time, just wondering around, catching up with some locals and (maybe a little too) often treating myself to a bite and/or drink. As a true Dutchie, and especially as a true “Jordanees”, a lot of my favourite bites or dishes include some sort of fish or seafood. Luckily, my go-to place is not only the best fish place in town but also in the heart of my beautiful neighbourhood. So, if you haven’t already, let me have pleasure of introducing you to Tijger & de Vis.
Tijger & de Vis is a lovely modern fish shop with a very obvious old-fashioned charm to it. They serve all kinds of just delicious fish and seafood of which the majority comes from our very own North-Sea. But next to serving fresh and handmade products every day, sustainability is an important topic at Tijger & de Vis.
The concept is rather easy and straight forward: at Tijger & de Vis you can order almost anything related to seafood or fish to eat in (at their adorable place) or to go and enjoy in the comfort of your own place for instance.
But what truly differentiates them in my eyes, is their everlasting strive for great quality and innovation. As one of the owners, Erik Huibers, believes that after certain dishes already have had their make-over, it is time to shine a special light on seafood and fish. ‘Cause at Tijger & de Vis, they believe that something so versatile has to be honoured and that it is simply way to interesting to not play with the many ways in which it can be prepared or combined.
Combined with a great dose of passion, Tijger & de Vis is the kind of thing I refer to true when I mention craftsmanship. Therefore, I love to wake up every morning find their smoked salmon at breakfast at my place. I told you before, I’m a very lucky man. 😉
