Love is love. It’s the sweetest and most beautiful thing there is if you’d ask me. The thing that conquers everything and some even call it the purpose of it all. For the last couple of days, that is exactly what my city has been celebrating during Amsterdam Pride: love, diversity and freedom. Looking forward, I am so thrilled to say that once again, there are some lovely and exciting events planned for this colourful upcoming weekend.
HeBiHo Vrijmibo – Amstelveld, 2nd of August 2019
Looking for the right way to start the pride weekend? Let me tell you a little about the very popular and oh so “gezellige” HeBiHo Vrijmibo, taking place at the Amstelveld. Every year, before the big day, this is where loads of people come to celebrate not only the start of the weekend but the freedom to be who you really are!
Pride City Beach – Dok Amsterdam
And if you would rather go somewhere more season proof, to have some drinks with friends and celebrate the start of another weekend, Dok Amsterdam might be your cup of tea. And of course, as we simply cannot deny that it is the “day before” they will host a special Pride City Beach Vrijmibo. Cheers!
Canal Parade – Saturday 4th of August 2019
YESSS! What’s left to say about the grande finale of the pride, the major feast called the Canal Parade. It is one of the biggest annual events in Amsterdam and I am so ready! This major celebration of anyone and everyone is famous for its great atmosphere, it’s heavily decorated boats and very(!) extravagant outfits every where you look. It is definitely the “unicorn” of all feasts, if you will. And as every year they tend to take a slightly different route, it is important to note that his year’s edition will start “Oosterdok” and will pass “Nieuwe Herengracht”, “Amstel”, “Prinsengracht” and finish at “Westerdok”. So, time to get your fun party hats on and enjoy the parade people!
By now you can probably guess a little bit how excited I am for all the pride celebrations. But there are way, way more pride celebrations and events throughout town. To learn more about all the lovely pride events this weekend (there are a lot), it is most convenient to visit the Iamsterdam website.
However, moving on to two lovely events that have nothing to do with pride but still cannot be left out in my humble opinion:
Pop-up winebar – Chateau Amsterdam
One can never get bored of wine. At least, that is what I am strongly convinced of. This weekend, Chateau Amsterdam launches its very own pop-up winebar, that will stay till the end of September. And what is lovelier than a summer evening, good company, some bites in one hand and a glass of an exciting new wine sort in the other.
Vondelpark Open Air Theatre
In the last edition of the Weekend Guide, I already told you about my love for open air theatres. Or cinemas. Or anything open air in Amsterdam to be honest. And if the weather allows it of course. 😉 One of Amsterdam’s most popular parks, Vondelpark, has its own open-air theatre, where starting as of now (yay!) every weekend, different shows will take place. Curious to learn more about their agenda? Check out their website.
That’s it for now folks. And remember this weekend, pride is for any and everyone. No matter who you are or who you love. Diversity, after all, is the spice of life right? Enjoy!
