It is not (that) often that I find myself craving a little sweet treat. But when I do, I naturally also have my go-to places in the neighbourhood. And then it struck me that I have not gotten around to tell you guys about one of these very special gems to me: Urban Cacao. So, here we are!
Urban Cacao mainly produces chocolate, a lot of extremely tasty chocolate. Next to some great classics, such as pecan and salted caramel, they truly offer the wildest combinations like banana salted peanut butter, Trinidad scorpion peppers, ruby, and salted almonds rosemary, to name just a few!

Their (work)shop is located on the Rozengracht, just around the corner of my place. Over 400 square meters are dedicated to brainstorming, creating and showcasing their eatable masterpieces. Pâtissier, glacier and chocolatier Hans Mekking is the creative chief in charge, always aiming to offer a broad range of beautiful and very diverse results of true craftmanship. Next to, what seems, endless amounts of chocolate, they also offer macarons and other kinds of lovely pastries.

Furthermore, something that I can truly appreciate is that Urban Cacao is what you call a responsible brand: only operating with fair, and sustainable parties. Not only are all ingredients fresh and of high quality, they are also of a fair heritage and Urban Cacao operates with full transparency.

At the shop you’ll also get the chance to enjoy a lovely cup of coffee or tea and try some samples for free if you’d like. And in case if you ever find yourself dealing with a serious matter of chocolate cravings in the Nine Streets area, no stress: they also have a lovely little shop at the Huidenstraat 30.
Around two years ago, I’ve partnered up with Urban Cacao to create some lovely custom chocolate bars together. And I am rather thrilled to confess that we’ve been working on something new…
Keep you posted!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
