Even though officially it is not Summer yet, the temperatures have been telling us otherwise. I guess it is safe to say that Summer has made an entrance to the city. I have been enjoying some lovely strolling over the canals, spending some time laying in the park and enjoying a cold drink or two. This weekend, I might consider a bit more of an active-approach, as so many great events, that are quite honestly just screaming my name, are just around the corner. So, let’s get to it!
Rooftop Festival Roep – 7th and 8th of June
My oh my, I always tend to get as excited as a kid on its birthday about this annual event! Throughout all parts of my beloved city, on 14 rooftops, the Rooftop Festival Roep will take place. This year’s programme includes live music, a silent disco, theatre, jeu de boules and my favourite, karaoke. Enjoy some of Amsterdam’s greatest sights from great height while dancing the night or day away!

Sushi & Ramen Festival – Dok Amsterdam, 7th till 10th of June
All sushi and ramen lovers unite! Which, I think, is actually almost everybody these days. For quite some time now, all kinds of Asian kitchens are immensely popular for one really simple and logical reason: it offers some of the greatest food out there. This weekend, an entire festival will be dedicated to some of the most delicious ramen and authentic sushi there is. You can expect a great variety of sushi creations and all kinds of fun activities, such as the spicy ramen challenge, a great live DJ and band and naturally a selection of sake and Japanese beer to complete the picture. Who’s in?
Sunday Market – Westergas, 9th of June
One of my favourite markets, the Sunday market, will take place at the Westergas again this weekend. You can expect some great food stands, fashion, little handmade gifts and best of all: a great atmosphere. Additionally, I also find this a great place to do some treasure hunting. Enjoy!

The Invisible Exhibition – Frascati, 7th till 9th of June
You might have heard about augmented and virtual reality a couple dozen of times, as it is starting to get more and more popular. This weekend, The Invisible Exhibition will open its doors to the public in Amsterdam. The name already kind of gives it away, as the art you’ll find is not so much tangible. The only way you will get to experience some beautiful and rather large artworks, is with some virtual reality glasses on. I don’t know about you, but I am so fascinated when things like innovation, technology and art come together! You can definitely count me in.
Javastraat Foodtour – Javaplein, 9th of June
And finally, what’s better than some delicious food, great stories and meeting very interesting people on a Sunday. Or any day of the week for that matter. The Javastraat Foodtour will take you on a culinary and historic tour where you’ll get to enjoy some fantastic dishes, listen to inspiring entrepreneurs and get to visit the very interesting Tropenmuseum afterwards. A full stomach at the end of the tour is guaranteed!
With a long bankholiday weekend right ahead of us, I cannot wait to start making some great stories for next week. Enjoy it to the fullest people!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
