Amsterdam wouldn’t be the city that I adore so much without a new opening, event, or hotspot announced almost every other day. This week, not so new in town, but very much new in my ‘hood’: Meat & Greek.

A quick yet very delicious bite is something I think many of us can truly appreciate. In my book, one of those dishes is definitely a traditional Greek Gyros. About two weeks ago, after opening their first store on the Utrechtsestraat in 2017, Meat & Greek opened its second store on the Haarlemmerstraat. Naturally, I decided to stop by and treat myself a little.

When going to Meat & Greek, expect nothing too fancy or a menu filled with endless variations. Meat & Greek is the kind of no-nonsense, laid back store offering homemade, fresh and traditional dishes. The fresh and local ingredients are taken care of by carefully selected suppliers and the bread is straight from their Greek artisan baker. And in my book, I must say that fresh ingredients and true craftmanship is something you can always taste. Even though you have the opportunity to customize your own gyros or proper plate, I was craving for the classic Greek Gyros. And luckily, Meat & Greek didn’t let me down. Just as they claimed, it really was a great and very straight-forward traditional meal.

Even though you can expect more of the traditional options on the menu, the atmosphere and design of the store is not something to be referred to as traditional Greek. So, no Zeus on columns but industrial, yet cosy touches that give this place more of simple, fresh and modern feel.
So, if you ever find yourself near the Haarlemmerstraat, experiencing some serious Greek (Gyros) cravings, Meat & Greek is here to save your day!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
