Weekend guide – Easter Festivities

If last week would have been a movie, or a book for that matter, the title would have been: ‘Reassessing the Dutch weather’. I have been enjoying the incredible sweet sun ray’s that have lightened up my beautiful city and almost (kindly) forced everybody to go outside. And there’s some good news, next to the fact that that a long Easter weekend is just around the corner, it looks like the sun will not go anywhere these upcoming days. Reason enough to see what will go down in town this weekend. Let’s get to it my dear sunshines!

World Press Photo – Nieuwe Kerk , 13th of April till 7th of July 2019
Even if you’re only a little into photography, this very well-known exposition is a must-visit if you’d ask me. The World Press Photo is an international press-photography contest. Every year, a 150 outstanding photographs and videos are put on display in the ‘Nieuwe Kerk’ on the Dam Square. New this year is the museum-like display of all photographs, a selection of pictures will be on display that were selected in previous years and the rich and impactful history of the World Press Photo foundation will be told. This is one of the expositions that truly stay with me throughout the year, due to its touching and powerful photographs. Very much recommended!

April Festivities– Nieuwmarkt, 19th till the 28th of April 2019
For the 32nd time already, the April Festivities on the Nieuwmarkt will take place. Nine days in a row, one gets to celebrate all that there is to celebrate in the heart of Amsterdam. Explore the Nieuwmarkt neighbourhood, enjoy some tapas, let the rhythm of the music take carry you away and if it’s your cup of tea, go ahead and take a ride on the carousel or probably the tiniest Ferris wheel you have ever seen. To be fair, you really cannot call it the city’s best kept secret, but the atmosphere known to be just fantastic. Care to contribute?

Art RAI – RAI , 17th till the 24th of April 2019
If you’re in serious need of a “culture/art-fix”, you might want to check out ‘Art RAI’. This weekend, artists from all over the world will display all different kinds of art: painted art, architecture, photography and new media. Expect 80 different collections and exhibitions, from Berlin to Antwerp and Barcelona. Furthermore, gallery owner Rob Malash will give a presentation about cross-overs between visual art, music, design, fashion and film.

Homebrewers Festival – Amsterdam North, 21st of April 2019
Almost nothing beats a cold beer on a sunny day. For all the beer-lovers out there: this weekend you get the chance to brew your own beer at the Homebrewers Festival. This festival is the result of a collaboration between Oepidus Brewing and Walhalla Brewery. Around 15 different homebrewers will be attending this edition. Add some music and a few nice bites on the side, and there you’ll have it: the perfect boozy Sunday afternoon/evening.

Easter Brunch – 21st and 22nd of April 2019
And of course, some recommendations on where to enjoy the perfect classic Easter brunch couldn’t be left out. And I must say, there are loads of lovely places hosting a sweet Easter brunch, but I have to confess that I already made my mind up.

What is better during Easter than a table filled with truly good food, mimosa’s, bloody mary’s and great company? I really wouldn’t know. On both first as second Easter Day, Razmataz will offer you just that. Except for the great company then, please do bring them with you. 😉

My second place that I’ll spend Easter is at Bar Kantoor. A great spot that will cherish the lovely Easter tradition by hosting an brunch with some extra flair. This means the chef’s bottomless (vegetarian) brunch, great live music and some extra bubbles to propose a toast to a memorable Easter weekend!

Cheers to a lovely Easter everybunny! Make it a great one!

Sincerely,
Mr. J
