After recent discoveries as ‘Koekmakerij van Stapele’ and ‘WALDO’, I’ve discovered that I might be more of a sweettooth than I’ve thought for all this time. And so, a small hunt for the loveliest places in the neighbourhood, to get my fix of sugar, began. When I got to ‘Pompadour’, my love for not only sweets, but good old craftmanship was once again confirmed.

Now, this is not a “too hip to handle” concept, rather the opposite actually: ‘Pompadour’ is all about a simplicity and authenticity. Imagine a display filled with picture perfect sweets and an old-fashioned tearoom. That is exactly what you’ll get at ‘Pompadour’. The wooden interior and classic wallpaper almost takes you back in time. There is no music on, except for the voices of other people in the shop, it’s rather quiet. Which makes for a nice little peaceful escape in the heart of town!

Everything they make, or rather create, at ‘Pompadour’ is the work of true craftmanship. Only the purest, raw and sustainable ingredients make the cut. So, there’s absolutely no usage of powders that speed up the process whatsoever. The dough for the croissants for instance, is being turned and twisted until it’s just perfect. And the Valrhona chocolate, which is the only kind of chocolate they use at ‘Pompadour’, needs that much work and dedication, that it is rare to find this specific kind of chocolate these days.

Whether it is chocolate bonbons, macarons or pastries that you are craving for, ‘Pompadour’ has got you covered. And finally, their mission to celebrate that taste is something so wonderful, is something I can definitely relate to on a very personal level…
Enjoy it to the fullest folks!
Sincerly,
Mr. J
