Today I’d like to tell you a little something about an all-time favourite of mine, not a new discovery, but a place that has been a favourite of mine for years already, called ‘Hutspot’. And for the Dutchies amongst us, I know I often talk extensively about food but for once I’m not referring to the typical Dutch dish, but my favourite concept store on the ‘Rozengracht’.
‘Hutspot’ is an innovative and accessible platform for local entrepreneurs, young designers and artists. The store offers a unique combination of pioneering fashion, innovative design and local art next to some established brands. It was founded in 2012 by two long-time friends from Amsterdam. Back then, they started off as a pop-up store in the lovely ‘Utrechtsestraat’, which (no surprise to me) turned out to be a big hit. This quickly led to a permanent option in the ‘Van Woustraat’ and another impressive store followed shortly after on the ‘Rozengracht’, which is just a stone’s throw away from my home.
The store is located in a beautiful former syrup factory. It has a very raw and industrial feeling to it, yet it is such a cosy and boutique-like place due to the gorgeous historic details, the inviting interior and the overall beautiful styling.
But what truly turned ‘Hutspot’ into an all-time favourite hotspot of mine is the diversity in products and the interesting and unique brands. You can get anything from handcrafted jewellery to sustainable furniture, exotic plants and some beautiful (coffee table) books. Due to the fact that this place is just filled with items you cannot get anywhere else, I’d say that it’s the perfect place to treat yourself (or your loved ones for that matter) to an original and unique gift.
Personally, I must confess that I simply have this huge weak spot for great concepts. They just get me so excited and especially in this scenario, where young, local designers and artists are offered a platform to present their goods in such an accessible manner. I just love discovering new brands and learning about their stories. And trust me when I say, Hutspot is just the place to do so!
Furthermore, this lovely location is always open for new collaborations and ready to help realize the most creative and exciting ideas. From a fashion-show to a private birthday dinner, all is possible.
The founders of Hutspot stated that their target group is rather broad, but what connects them is their love for art, culture and products with a story to them. I guess that solves the mystery of why I ‘accidentally’ find myself there oh so often. 😉
