As you might know already, I love to stroll through the ‘Haarlemmerstraat’ and ‘Haarlemmerdijk’ every now and then. You can find the cutest little boutiques, lunch spots and concept stores here. About a month ago, a rather remarkable, creative concept space, called The Bike Bar, opened its doors. And of course, when I was in the ‘Haarlemmerstraat’ this week, I couldn’t help but to find myself walking into this place.
The Bike Bar makes for a great new, refreshing, addition to the ‘Haarlemmerstraat’. I consider myself to be very lucky, as there are various lovely coffee spots in the Jordaan area already. But what makes The Bike Bar truly different, is that having a coffee and physical activity, can go hand in hand. Whether you’re having a creative brainstorm session with a colleague or you’re catching up with a friend, you can take place on desk bikes and yoga balls while enjoying your drink! How fun is that, right?! And no stress, if you’re not up to some activity and you’re just looking for a comfortable couch, they do still have some ‘regular’ seats. It’s totally up to you!

And let me tell you, not only the concept but also the interior of The Bike Bar is so creative and so beautifully done. Cool creations of bicycle saddles and handlebars on the wall remind you of western wall skulls and bicycle wheels are being used as lamps. It’s truly a lovely and inspiring space to have a sit-down, for whatever purpose.

The Bike Bar opens every day at 7:30 in the morning, so it makes for a nice place to start your day right. Next to coffee and other drinks, they also serve some tiny treats like rocky road, chocolate cake or more healthy options as nuts and pickled veggies. A nice little touch, that I really appreciate, is that the tosti’s (grilled sandwiches) are called after famous cyclists: ‘A Mark Cavendish’ and ‘The Lance Armstrong’. I just love that!

So, it seems like us Dutchies can never get enough of bikes. You could probably say that it is our favourite way of transportation, as Amsterdam counts more bicycles than inhabitants. And rumour has it that any kind of exercise does not only make you happier but also really helps to get the creative juices flowing! Thus, who’s up for some coffee and ‘cardio’?
Sincerely,
Mr. J
