Books: one of the only things I can never have enough of. I’m a major bookworm, to say the least. A little while back, I told you about an art fair every Sunday on Spui. Today, I’d like to tell you about something quite similar I’d say, namely the most charming book market, also on Spui, which is organized every Friday.
For 25 years already, this book market has been the place to find that one rare book that was still missing from your collection. This weekly book market is known to have the real hidden and exclusive gems among books. Therefore, it attracts people from all over the country but even from abroad, in order to find ‘the one’. 😉 But there’s more to it than that. Aficionadas of old prints, posters, pamphlets and magazines will probably also not go home empty handed, as there are some stands also dedicated to just that. Additionally, the books and other items on display are not only in Dutch but also in English, German, French or maybe even another exotic language.
There are around 25 stands every week. Just enough to make sure that you’re not totally overwhelmed (they display a lot!) and to keep the setting still quite cosy and charming. The booksellers (also known to be real book hoarders) are true experts. They come from all over the Netherlands and are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their books. You can imagine that as true book hoarders, they have more in stock at home, than they could display on one stand. So, don’t hesitate if you have a question or looking for a specific book. They’re more than glad to be of service and are really of great help!
The book market is held in the heart of Amsterdam from 10 till 6 every Friday. If you’re planning on going, do check their website in advance. In case of really extreme weather conditions, the market can be cancelled sometimes.
I still have some special books on my wish list, so I’ll probably head there in a little bit. Happy reading all!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
