So, this one all Dutchies around here will already know and technically, it doesn’t really concern anything Jordaan-related. Nevertheless I would love to share a lil’ something on the monthly flea market at the IJhallen.

Even though I am Jordaan minded, I love a trip to the more industrial, robust parts of Amsterdam. Taking the ferry across ’t IJ’, to the big, industrial warehouses at the NDSM-warf. Wandering around the many stalls, full of wonderful memorabilia of earlier decades. This particular flea market is actually the biggest in Europe. It has over 500 stalls indoor, and during summer around 250 more outside. The entrance for the market in 5,- euro per person (2 euros for children).
If you’re a real treasure hunter, I’d recommend you be their Saturday at 9 am sharp. This way you will have first pick! But, yeaah. I wouldn’t get out of bed at 7.30 am during my vacation. So, second best: be there around 3pm in the afternoon. Daily sellers will lower their prices, trying to sell as much as possible before the day is over.

This part of town is really a must-see. The industrial warehouses are gorgeous and you’ll find some real hidden treasures around here. Combining the market with lunch at Pllek or drinks at Noorderlicht is always a good idea!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jordaan
