As you know, I adore wandering around town every chance I get. You might have read my posts on ‘De Amsterdamse School’ or more recent on the images I found on the ‘Beeldbank’ (read it here: click & here: click). Amsterdam has so much beauty, and I am not the only one who is addicted to its architecture, facades, canals and little courtyards. Amsterdam houses are often slim, high and deep. Because of the danger of flooding the front doors are sometimes high and only accessible though stairs.

Recently I stumbled upon a Instagram account called @thedoorsofamsterdam, which offered a whole new perspective on the beauty of these doors. Aren’t they pretty?
Lisanne van Marrewijk has ‘a crush on the world’, just like me. In her spare time she loves to stroll around Amsterdam and take photos of our beloved city. During her trips, she discovered a particular love for the beautiful doors you walk by. This made her think of collecting these images and start an Instagram account for them. Using #doorsofamsterdam you can share your own findings.

As you can see, us ‘dutchies’ like to make the best of it. No gardens, doesn’t necessarily mean cold, harsh entrances. No, we find joy in plants, adding green to our little doorsteps. Creating our own happiness, vertical gardens right? Not only in the Jordaan District will you find some pretty doors, one of my favorites in this area is the ‘weesperzijde’. A beautiful street, near the Amstel canal, wonderful facades and doors.
Well, tip of the day; go out, explore and pay some attention to the little things, like doors.
Sincerely,
Mr. J.
