There’s a new mister in town! About a month ago Mr. Haz Tacobar opened its doors, and let me tell you: it is great. Mr. Haz is located on the Egelantiersstraat, near the crossing with the Prinsengracht. A perfect 5 minute walk from my home at the Bloemgracht. The bar is open every day till 1 pm and weekends even till 3 pm. Kitchen is open till 11 pm, so this makes it the perfect late night dining spot.
Mr. Haz is not your typical restaurant, it is a hybrid mix of a bar, restaurant, local hangout and work friendly café. The bar offers good, fresh and most of all culinary tacos for a small price. You can choose between several meat, fish or veggie tacos. The tacos are quite small, which makes it perfect to share several taco’s together. Which you might know, is my favorite way of eating food, since you get to try a bit of everything.
I can highly recommend the grilled halibut taco if you are into spicy, like me. The steak taco has that perfect juiciness we are all looking for. Did I say all tacos are homemade? Fresh flour tacos all the way. Gluten-free? Don’t worry, they got some fresh buckwheat tacos for you.
But that’s not all. Mr. Haz has some amazing lunch options too. Fresh juices and great locally roasted coffee, by Back to Black coffee roasters. This combined with fast, good working internet, makes it a great place to hang out and get some work done.

The interior is inspired by the Spanish street artist Mr. Hazelnut (thus, the name reference). After meeting several times, the owner and the artist became friends. Mr. Hazelnut did all the artwork in the bar, which is amazing and creates this unique, creative atmosphere. For example, an enormous portret of Kate Moss is cut into the wall and all tables are marked with a Mr. Hazelnut stencil/graffiti piece. The owner is super friendly and will answer any questions you might have.
All and all, a great place for tacos, beer, tequila or mescal, lunch, dinner, working or just to hangout. Hybrid, you see?
Sincerely,
Mr. J
