Let me tell you a little something about KILO. This Dutch design brand was founded in 2013 and recently opened their flagship store, right on the Westerstraat of all places. And it is simply amazing!
Childhood friends, Peter Smit and Jan Paul Koning started KILO as a response to the throwaway, mass produced furniture. Wanting to create a high quality brand producing sustainable, modern products which can last for ages.
At KILO they combine traditional craftsmanship with the newest technology. Influenced by the ‘flat pack’ trend, KILO is making sustainable furniture which you can put together yourself. No tools or advanced construction skills needed! No glue, no nails, no screws. Sounds great right? Don’t forget the most important part. Just as easy as their products are to assemble, they are to disassemble. Over and over again. Can you imaging moving with furniture you can disassemble this easily and transport anywhere, flat packed?

KILO is all about sustainability. Their whole collection is designed in Amsterdam and produced locally. Each season has new styles, products and colors. By using technology KILO produces each part of a product to exact measurements. The parts then are sanded and oiled by hand to create a perfect finish.
Their use of technology, materials and sustainability make a great design. Simple, modern and very stylish. In the shop at the Westerstraat you can choose the design and pick your own color, fun right? If not for shopping, the place is definitely worth to pop in for a minute or two.
Sincerely,
Mr. J
