Yes! Finally we are getting some summer. Thus, let me tell you a little something on how I like to spend my summer days in Amsterdam. I love spending warm days in a park. Escape the hustle and bustle of the Jordaan for a little bit, and enjoy the sun with a cold beer. Today’s advice is about the Westerpark. A perfect city park with some great spots to hangout. Big pro for the Westerpark is that you are still allowed to have a barbecue there, in for example the Vondelpark this got prohibited.
But for starters a great breakfast to begin with, of course. I recommend a visit to the Bakkerswinkel. As you might know, the Bakkerswinkel has multiple locations. This one is located just near the main entrance of the park, and offers a great breakfast menu. They try to use as many local products as possible, in order to give you a healthy, organic meal. Also, making all sorts of yummy sweet themselves in the bakery. Did you know their attic is one of the official wedding locations in Amsterdam? Just gorgeous. Check out their menu here: click. P.s. their high tea is simply amazing!

So, after breakfast I like to go and find a nice spot in the park. There are multiple places where you can sit near the water, and even some where you can take a little swim. Time for some much needed relaxing. Maybe read a book, hang out with friends, play cards or simply enjoy the sun. As these sunny days are becoming rare in the Netherlands. I always love to bring some snacks and drinks, everybody does it. If you want you can even organise a barbecue later in de evening. Remember to bring a garbage bag of some kind, super handy while cleaning up after you are done.
Not feeling the barbecue part? Well lucky you, the Westerpark offers some pretty good alternatives. For instance, brewery Troost. In their brewpub you will find some of the finest burgers and beers in town! I am a sucker for their classic burger with jalapeños. Also their snacks and platters are perfect next to one of their own beers.
Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Mr. J.
