Still no plans for tomorrow? What about a visit to the Prinsengrachtconcert? As part of the annual Grachtenfestival, each year a big concert is being held on the Prinsengracht. It’s first edition took place in 1981. The concert is located right in front of the Pulitzer Hotel, on a big platoon in the middle of the canal. Here is all you need to know when visiting the concert.
First of all, it is totally free!
Each year lots of boats surround the main platform, offering a unique view and seating for the concert. Boats are free to conquer a nice spot from 11 am on the day of the concert. Don’t have a boat, or friends with a boat? Do not worry, there is enough room for everyone alongside of the canal. Try to get there in time if you would like to have the best spot and an awesome view. Make sure to bring some food and drinks if you’d like, since there is no catering at the event. Good to know is that from 1 pm the Pulitzer Hotel is only open to its staying guests, before this time and after the show the hotel is open for everyone who would love to have a bite to eat or a drink.

The show starts at 4 pm with a special junior program and ends at 11 pm. Bring a chair or something to sit on, it is quite long to be standing the whole time. This year the main act is the Brodsky Quartet & their friends Nino Gvetadze, Marcelo Nisinman and Zoran Marković. Each year the show traditionally end with the famous Dutch song: ‘Aan de Amsterdamse Grachten’, which everyone sings together. The full program and additional information you can find here: click. You can even find the lyrics to the closing song.
So, go on study the song and tomorrow we’ll sing it together!
Sincerely,
Mr. J.
