Time for my favorite filmfestival! Starting tomorrow Pluk de Nacht will be back in town. Yes, the summer keeps on messing with us but this open air film festival is a definite must. It will probably be quite chilly, so remember to take some extra clothes and maybe a blanket. Each year Pluk de Nacht host open air screenings of the best (inter)national cinema that hasn’t been released in Dutch theaters, right on the banks of ’t IJ.
The festival started out in 2003. A small group of friends with great love for film, wanted to create a platform bringing you a special kind of cinema. The kind that normally goes unnoticed and often is not released in The Netherlands. They were inspired by other filmfestivals. The thrill they got from seeing these kinds of films, but not being able to share with others, since many of them remained largely unseen.

Pluk de Nacht became a place where filmlovers can gather and watch these never-before-released films together. Next to this surprising program you can find art, yummy food and different parties. Best thing ever! Admission to the festival is free. Reserving for the movie is not absolutely necessary, but if you want you can reserve a seat by making a donation to the festival (starting from €4,-). If you so so, don’t forget to pick up your seat between 6.30 and 9 pm!
So, I hear you thinking. How do I choose the right night/movie? Personally, I would love to see Weirdos. Which is situated in 1976 and tells the story of the 15-year-olds Kit and Alice, running away from home, hitchhiking through the maritime landscape up to east Canada. Also the opening film Golden Exits seems very promising. Well, you can always check their program and watch most of the films trailers here: click.
Sincerely,
Mr. J.
