Have you ever heard about Papabubble? Well I have, and todays story is all about them. First things first, when I am talking about Papabubble, I am talking about the little candy shop on the Haarlemmerdijk. In this shop they make artisanal candy; handmade, super pretty, yummy sweets. Now, I am not much of a sweet tooth. But these little treats always seem to make me happy.
While being in Barcelona, as a break from their successful jobs, owners Dominik and Marieken crossed paths with Papabubble for the first time. Their immediate love for candy making was so strong, they decided to open a Papabubble shop in Amsterdam. Papabubble originated in Barcelona, where in 2004 the desire arose to bring back the artisanal candy making process. Ever since, the brand kept on growing. Attracting more candy lovers, candy makers and new shops all over the world.

By entering the shops, you’ll enter the beautiful world of artisan candy making. If you’re lucky, you’ll see some live action candy making! Where as, in most of the shops, the production of the candy takes place right in the middle of the shop. The process of this candy making is just a wonderful thing to watch and an amazing skill to have. The stores produce a wide variation in flavors, designs and colors. Next to the original little sweets they also make lollypops, candy rings or roses, for example. Also companies can order batches of candies with their logo or design in it, for promotional targets. Of course, they make great gifts as well. Or little (kids)party treats. You name it.
Either way, they are something special. If you have some time to spare I would definitely go visit the shop sometime, if lucky you’ll see the masters do their magic. The upcoming two weeks Papabubble will be at the theaterfestival ‘De Parade’ giving workshops making lollypops. Wanna know more? Check my article about it here: click.
