I guess not many of you guys have ever heard about the brigadeiro. At least, I hadn’t at first. On a sunny day not to long ago, I found myself wandering around the canals. While walking on the Brouwersgracht, I saw the most peculiar little shop I had seen in a while. ‘Sweet Bob’ was advertising to have ‘the best ‘hmmm’ ever inside’. As they got my immediate attention, I walked in and came to talk with the owners.
The fact is the Brigadeiro is a typical Brazilian delicacy made from condensed milk and butter. With this as the basis you can make endless combinations. The chef has experimented and developed 38(!) different versions, like; Tiramisu, Salted Caramel, Pistachio, Chocolate Mint etc. But also they love to combine some Dutch flavors with their traditional Brazilian recipe. This resulted in popular flavors like; Stroopwafel, Speculaas and Pepernoot.

After our little talk I was invited to have some Brazilian coffee and taste a brigadeiro. Their coffee is roasted by Black to Black coffee roasters and the blend is put together with great care. I decided to go with the Créme Brûlée flavor, as I had just missed the last Salted Caramel, which would have been my first choice. But no worries, as I was soon to find out, Créme Brûlée is an amazing flavor. It really is similar to the well know dessert, and the caramelized sugar covering this brigadeiro is just perfect.
Sincerely,
Mr. J
